Juliet Smith

Like many people these days, my career path has not been straightforward! I came to agriculture by way of archaeology, having studied the discipline for my undergraduate degree at Glasgow University. It was during this time that I recognised that you need to understand the past to create sustainable futures, in whatever walk of life or business.

During my early career in archaeology, I became ever-more aware of the importance of sustainable practice, to the point that I enrolled on a Master’s in Sustainability, at the University of York. In my studies, I focused on using archaeological and traditional practices to inform modern sustainable agriculture, which aligns with my particular interest in regenerative agriculture and agroforestry.

I am a qualifying member of the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM).

I joined Promar in November 2023, and am thrilled to be working in a job where I can contribute positively to people’s livelihoods as well as to the environment. It’s very rewarding to work in a field that makes a real difference, and in such an important industry as agriculture. As someone relatively new to the industry, I’m eager to learn and grow in my role.

Away from my work, I love the outdoors, and enjoy hiking, camping, caving, and bouldering. When I’m indoors, I love reading fantasy and science fiction, and I’m a big board-game enthusiast.
